Return to form
Hmm. Blogging? Blogging, you say? I think I remember that.
There have been various things I was going to comment on in the last...um, three weeks... since I last blogged, but I've mostly been too busy. (Either in the sense of "actually doing something else important" or "faffing around avoiding doing the important thing which I need to do, but feeling guilty for said avoidance, so being unable to do such things as blogging which would signal that I'd actively rejected doing the important thing".) It feels like I'm out of practice really, having blogged a whole TWO times in February. However, I can console myself with the thought that February is the shortest month, so my ratio of days:blogs isn't quite as bad as it might have been.
Anyway, the various things I was going to talk about included things like:
- ... the Jaguar E-type Kevin got me for Valentine's (scale 1:18)
- ... the William Shatner album I voluntarily bought him (that's real love, that is)
- ... the fact that a whole quarter of my budget this term was spent on a) Valentine's gifts, b) a Mother's Day gift, c) gifts for two parents' birthdays (things will therefore be less expensive next term)
- ... the five large programming courseworks that were due in the last four weeks, plus two small maths ones (all of which were a prime reason for extreme lack of recent blogging)
- ... the fact that, due to having actually used Python for the first time for one of the five courseworks, my now confirmed opinion is that Python rocks muchly (as opposed to simple speculation prior to this)
- ... the shocking fact that it's now the tenth week of term, and next week I'm freeee (to do another hardware coursework, and an essay, and a presentation)
- ... the fact that I lost the pendant from the 3-year-old necklace I wore every day...
- ... and the fact that Kevin sweetly surprised me with a replacement necklace
- ... the fact that I received an "imminent domain expiration" notice the other day from my registrar, meaning I've been blogging under this URL for almost two whole years
- ... the sublime leaked songs from Fiona Apple's possibly-never-to-be-released third album
- ... the strange modern-day remake of The Manchurian Candidate (the remake actually had nothing whatsoever to do with Manchuria) that irritatingly failed to even recognise, let alone reproduce, what is patently the best scene of the original film
- ... the fact that I've caught the eBay bug (buying, not selling), which is the perfect complement to my cheapskateness...
- ... and because I now know first-hand what eBay can do to you, I beg you all not to ever register for fear of being sucked in... (Disclaimer: those without moderately obsessive personalities may not be at risk of eBay addiction)
- ... speaking of bargains (which we were, I'll have you know), a couple of weeks ago the Guardian was giving away free (free!) copies of Franz Kafka's The Trial with their newspaper — and the Guardian (along with the Times and the Independant) sells for 20p on campus
Probably some other things too. What, you don't think I've been keeping a running list, do you?
Thus endeth the blogpost.

A nice weekend
Not this weekend (not that this weekend wasn't nice too, partly since it involved us watching the whole Back To The Future trilogy and drooling over the DVD extras), but last weekend when we had what seemed like the first beautifully sunny day of the year, with the bright sunny sunshine and the wonderfully vibrant blue sky that had literally not one cloud in it.
Kevin and I went out into the back garden armed with his camera, primarily to take photos of his now-extinct beard but we then were drawn into testing his new tripod by snapping the surroundings. There's even a rare photo of me in there.
Nice shot there of Kevin trying to look rather noble posing on one knee... In case you were wondering: I'm enjoying my Easter holidays :-)
